I-5 Gateway Pedestrian Bridge

Completed in 2009

The bridge forms a two-span cable-stayed structure that is monolithically connected with curved ramps. The main spans consist of segmental precast deck panels with composite topping slab of total depth of 0.49 m. The approaches consist of a series of 9.0 m cast-in-place spans matching the deck section dimensions of the main spans.

The A-shaped tower was cast in the horizontal position at the freeway median and subsequently erected as one precast member. The stays are formed by solid bars that are connected to the segments with standard clevises.

To simplify production, the segments were not match-cast. The precast deck was erected in balanced cantilevers from the central tower. The suspended spans together with curved spans were post-tensioned.
